Hypertension - The Silent Killer

Hypertension is another name for high blood pressure, that is, blood pressure is higher than normal or at a high state.

Hypertension tends to affect the group of working age that is often associated with high stress conditions in the workplace. If hypertension is not controlled, sufferers can become a huge burden
on the health care system because of serious health problems. Hypertension is classified into two types, primary and secondary. Primary hypertension is high blood pressure that does not show any specific cause. However, some diet drugs may be suspect. Hypertension is caused by tension or stress, although some believe it to be. Secondary hypertension may be the result of an underlying disease or dormant. It is estimated that affects more than 50 million Americans and is a leading cause of cardiovascular and renal diseases. It 'also a major cause of stroke, heart disease and kidney failure.

Hypertension can exist in different forms and symptoms do not appear until and 'severely high. And 'common in older people and is generally associated with vascular dysfunction in coronary circulation. When there is an excessive pressure against the walls of the blood vessels and persist for several weeks or months, hypertension is diagnosed. It is a medical condition that can be a symptom of an underlying disease. The worst effects of hypertension are the heart, kidneys, eyes and brain. Hypertension is a leading cause of death in adults, is a serious health problem and is the single most significant factor of the stroke, one of the biggest killer diseases known to man.

Shortness of breath on exertion is the most common symptom of pulmonary hypertension and virtually all those who have the condition develops. Symptoms may include mild fatigue, dizziness, fainting, fast heartbeat, ankle or leg swelling, swelling, tremors, hunched posture, slowness of movement, as well as muscular rigidity. Primary pulmonary hypertension is found twice as often in women than men over thirty-five years. During pregnancy, primary hypertension can be more responsive to dietary calcium.

Treatment of patients with primary hypertension is generally directed to the underlying disease. The treatment of high blood pressure significantly reduces the risk of heart problems and stroke. By opening the renal artery obstructed, with or without stent, usually alleviates hypertension.

Some patients may experience excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, morning dry mouth or headache, nasal obstruction, chronic irritability, depression or impotence. Patients with diabetic nerve injury will improve if their diabetes is better controlled. Those patients who are overweight, have high levels of stress and high intake of caffeine or alcohol, smoke or do not exercise regularly they need to make lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of hypertension. Patients who experience extreme drops in blood pressure during the night and extreme peaks in the morning, as a rule, remain in the hospital overnight to quickly resume normal activities.
